Student and Community Access pricing

How to verify, email route (the quick way)

Section titled “How to verify, email route (the quick way)”

From Settings → Billing, enter your student number, your institution, and pick your email ending from a dropdown: .ac.za, .edu, .edu.za, or .ac.uk. We send a 6-digit code to that address; enter it and you’re verified immediately. This is the fastest path, and it’s the one we recommend if your institution’s email ends in one of those.

If your institution’s email doesn’t end in one of the listed extensions, or you’d rather not use your student email as your Synkra login, choose “verify with a document instead.” Upload one of:

  • an academic transcript
  • a registration or pre-registration document
  • a fee or financial statement
  • an official enrollment confirmation

The document must:

  • be from your current institution
  • be issued this calendar year
  • show the institution’s official letterhead or branding
  • show your full name exactly as it appears on your Synkra account
  • clearly show you’re currently enrolled

Not accepted: a student card on its own, screenshots that don’t show current enrollment, documents from a previous year, or documents where the name doesn’t match your account.

Most documents are checked automatically within minutes. If anything’s unclear, it goes to a person on our team for review. You’re never rejected automatically, and we’ll email you either way.

Student pricing lasts until 31 December of the year you verified, then you need to verify again for the new year. If you don’t re-verify in time, your account simply moves to the Free plan. You’re never automatically charged the standard price. You can verify again any time to get student pricing back, or subscribe at the standard price if you’re no longer a student.

60% off the Starter, Business, or Pro plan for qualifying non-profits, NGOs, NPCs, charities, and community-based organisations, including faith-based organisations that run a genuine community-serving initiative (see below).

Starter Business Pro
Standard price R299/month R599/month R999/month
Community price R119/month R239/month R399/month

Organisations doing real, ongoing community work. Being formally registered helps as evidence but doesn’t automatically qualify you. We look at the actual community activity, not just your paperwork. Faith-based organisations (churches, ministries, and similar) have one extra requirement; see below.

From Settings → Billing → Community Access, tell us about:

  • Your organisation: name, type, registration status, country, address, and registration number or document if you’re registered.
  • Your contacts: primary contact, the person responsible for the Synkra account, and a billing contact if different.
  • Your community initiative: what it is, who it serves, where, and how often it runs.
  • Evidence that it’s real: photos of your activities, programme materials, flyers, reports, or links to your website or public social media.

AI-generated images aren’t accepted as evidence, and submitting them can get your application rejected.

Being a church, ministry, or other faith-based organisation doesn’t qualify you on its own. You’ll need to show a genuine, ongoing initiative that provides tangible non-religious community benefit: a soup kitchen, community garden, clothing drive, skills or youth development, job support, a wellness programme, a book club, and similar. Worship, prayer meetings, Bible study, and preaching, by themselves, aren’t enough. We’ll ask for photos of the initiative specifically, a description, how often it runs, and who it benefits.

Unlike Student pricing, Community Access isn’t instant. A person on our team reviews every application. Expect a decision in about 48 hours. Three outcomes:

  • Approved: Community pricing is available immediately.
  • More information needed: we’ll tell you exactly what’s missing; reply from the same Settings → Billing page.
  • Not approved: you stay on your current plan and pricing, and you’re welcome to apply again later with stronger evidence.

Community Access lasts 12 months from approval, then you need to reapply and show your organisation still qualifies. If it lapses, your account moves to the Free plan, never automatically charged the standard price. You can reapply any time, or subscribe at the standard price if you no longer qualify.

No. If you somehow qualify for both, you get whichever discount is bigger (Community Access, 60%).

I’m already paying the standard price. What happens when I verify?

Section titled “I’m already paying the standard price. What happens when I verify?”

Your subscription moves to the discounted price from your next billing date. You’re not charged twice, and you don’t lose the time you’ve already paid for.

Does the discount affect my plan’s limits?

Section titled “Does the discount affect my plan’s limits?”

No. A discounted Starter plan has exactly the same seats, messages, and storage as a full-price Starter plan. See Plans and pricing.

Your discount carries over to the new plan automatically, as long as your verification is still valid.
